Save Money on Tulsa Handyman

We may not be able to do many handyman jobs ourselves however we can do little jobs that help save time and money before he arrives. From past and present experience I’d like to share a few tips in hopes you too can afford to employ Tulsa Handyman to do the work you only can’t get to and just don’t have the expertise or tools.

A handyman can charge either by the hour or by the job. Usually, if you have a lot of small jobs, he will charge by the hour. If the situation is significant like a, remodel he will almost always charge a flat fee. For the small jobs like hanging a ceiling fan, adding an outlet, etc, there is not a lot of prepping to be done, but that’s OK because it’s only a couple of hours to complete these. Painting the outside or interior walls like a foyer can benefit from prep work you have done before he arrives. Here is how it works.

Ask him how much he will charge. Tell him you understand he has to rent scaffolding, buy paint and charge a reasonable hourly wage for himself and his help. Ask him, “If I tape around the baseboards, doors, and ceilings, and anywhere tape is needed, move furniture & pictures, put on the first coat, (I know I’ve heard of the one coat paint but it’s not an exact science, and it doesn’t always cover in one stroke of the brush) cover the vents, cover furniture and move it to another room if necessary. Now, his quote of $600 for the foyer paint job might be $450.00 or $500.00. He can get in and out fast and go to the next customer. Just treat him with respect and have an open line of communication with him. After all, a $450.00 job is better than no job.

Maybe you want a new kitchen floor. Can you take out the old kitchen floor and dispose of it? He can come by and lay down the new level. Again, make sure you know how to do this. Repairing damage can cost you more than you can save. I know that some of the home improvement contractors will charge substantially less if you remove the flooring and furniture yourself as long as it is done correctly. You may even be able to add the quarter round yourself.

Another way save money is to have a handyman do simple things. Food disposal is more comfortable to take out than to install. Take the old one out and dispose of it yourself. Have the handyman come by and fix it only. You may also be able to afford additional things around the house that are simple to get up to the hourly wage like hang a new light in the closet or outside motion lights or even get a quote on a different job while he is there.

Remember, you can make good affordable use of a handyman …
